Six months later, you've tried eleven different AI coding tools. You're still looking for the right one. You haven't shipped anything meaningful in weeks.
This isn't laziness. It's a predictable psychological response to a specific type of stimulus—one that the AI tool market is almost perfectly designed to trigger.

Instead of "what's the best AI coding tool?", ask: "what job do I need done?" Some engineers need autocompletion. Some need debugging help. Some need architectural reasoning. The tool that excels at one of these may be mediocre at others. Understand which problem you're actually solving first.
Step 2: Pick one, fully
Choose the tool that handles your primary use case reasonably well—not perfectly. Commit to it for a defined period (minimum 6 weeks). During that period, don't evaluate alternatives, don't read comparison posts, don't benchmark on weekends. Just work.
Step 3: Track what breaks

Every tool has a ceiling. Copilot has limitations. Claude has limitations. Cursor has limitations. The question isn't which tool has no limitations—it's which limitations you can live with. A tool you fully use beats a "better" tool you keep evaluating.
